Over 40 years ago, informal discussions were held among some members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®️ in the Bessemer area to charter a chapter in the Bessemer and Bessemer Cutoff areas. This group didn't achieve getting a chapter formed but continued to serve in the Sorority. In 2021, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®️ recognized that there was still a great need for service in the Bessemer and Hoover areas of Jefferson County, Alabama. Members of the current group either reside, work, and/or were raised in Bessemer Cutoff communities. Therefore, they came together to dedicate their time to address some of the unmet needs of the area. The group consisted of 55 members with a diversity in background, education, occupation and experience. Members of the group range from 50+ years of membership to 3 years of membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®️ and have served in a plethora of leadership roles in the organization and community. This group chose the name Pink and Cultured Pearls under the leadership of Mrs. Lori Harris.

On July 1, 2021, Mrs. Lori Harris received an application to be recognized as an official interest group in the Sorority and submitted a completed application to the South Eastern Region on July 6, 2021. The 26th South Eastern Regional Director, Mitzi Dease Paige, Esq., submitted the group's application to the Board of Directors and the group was approved as an Official Interest Group on July 10, 2021. The group held the first meeting with South Eastern Regional Director Mitzi Dease Paige, Esq. on Monday, July 26, 2021, to elect officers and establish the foundation of the interest group. Since the chartering approval the group has established bylaws, created an approved budget, fundraised, completed numerous membership and sisterly relations activities, participated in Leadership Development Trainings and conducted an abundance of service projects in the Bessemer and Hoover communities.

A new administration of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®️ began in July 2022, "Soaring to Greater Heights of Sisterhood and Service". The group held their first meeting with the current South Eastern Regional Director, Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, to discuss the next steps in the chartering process. The group continued their work in the community with new International Programs and determination to become a chapter and hosted Dr. Adams on a tour of the service area. During these next steps, the group developed partnerships with The Foundry Ministries in Bessemer and Green Valley Baptist Church in Hoover to name a few to continue servicing the community's needs.

The Pink and Cultured Pearls Interest Group was approved for chartering by the Board of Directors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®️ on Friday, February 17, 2023 and announced by South Eastern Regional Director, Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the 91st South Eastern Regional Conference in Huntsville, Alabama. On June 4, 2023 the Pink and Cultured Pearls were chartered and given the name Alpha Beta Psi Omega.
